My computer is a shuttle ST20G5. I know from a few sites that the 4800+ should be the fastest processor which runs on this model's MB, however, I now see that there are 2.4ghz ones built on the 90nm process, and 2.5's built on the 65nm. Obviously smaller is better in regards to heat, etc, however, will my motherboard suppport this (might have to flash the bios) as it is still socket 393... or should I go with the other one to be safe? Very confused..

it will support the 2.5 Brisbanes with a bios flash.

get a 5000+ black edition, unlocked multiplier for easy OCing. as long as you dont raise the core temp\FSB your temps wont go up :)

Alright, let me just make sure I have all this right:

Right now I have 6.00PG Pheonix Brand BIOS from 8/1/05 so if I flash it with a newer one, the 65nm's will be supported?

Arctic Silver 5 I would presume? (I"m gonna use the cleaner first on the ICE system, but this heat-transfer compound should be the best, right?)

Here are my motherboard specs just incase as I thought that the 5000+ wasn't supported: (All via CPU-Z)

Manufacturer: Shuttle
Model: RS480-M1573
Chipset: ATI Xpress200 (RS480) Rev 01
Southbridge: ALI M1573
LPCIO: ITE IT8712

Finally, although I know that the PSU's in these SFF's are "godly" in that I haven't found one die yet (fun with google), they are still rated at only 240watts... and with a 5000+ Black and a 7950gt, will I be pushing it? (I chose the 7950gt over the 8800 b/c of power consumption. Right now I have a 6800gt OC'ed to 405, 1110.

nope, right now I have a socket 939 Clawhammer/Newcastle 0.13um 3500+ (2.2ghz)

well its a socket 393 motherboard he has so i wouldn't think it was intel :)

edit: oops...must have posted same time as 015734 :D

can u find a 4800+ for Socket 939 anywhere? cuz i cant
and wherever i cant, they're ridiculously expensive - its sad cuz i want the most outta my moms computer and i cant afford it

Thanks for all the responses so far. You are right, as the 5000+ is AM2 only, as I did spend a good deal of time trying to find a 939 one with no luck :( 4800+'s can be found for around 100 many places (65nm, etc) so this is probably what I'll go with (I know the 4200+ can be OCed to 2.4... but I want to run it at stock if I can). As far as the 7950gt, yea, I know that it may be a bit too much, however, if worst comes to worst and I kill the PSU, I'll cut out the back grill and drop in a 300watt which should be plenty. However, the thing throwing me off is that the 6800gt running at 405/1110 consumes the same as a 7950gt on stock. So as long as I don't OC (I OC my other one 24/7) I should be fine with power... I hope. Any more advice is great :)
