right now u can only get the quad
but intel's new line of cpu's will be out in jan

I would wait until January if you can, they have a new lineup of quad and dual-core CPU's. I want to see how Phenom compares to them, AMD needs to step it up.

Penryn is going to be the CPU to look at. I'm hoping to be the first member on here to get one of these bad boys when it comes out this January. Nehalem is coming up after that and it's going to be a new architecture change coming out in 2009-2010. If you MUST upgrade, upgrade with Penryn. Don't wait for Nehalem because that's too long. Kentsfield and Conroe (current quad and dual core) has matured to the point of becoming antiquated. Just kidding, but it's time to pass the torch.

Recently, representatives of Intel have confirmed the information that Nehalem processors will include up to 8 cores (Intel Octo Core), and some sources even report that all the cores will be placed on a single chip.

now that is what i call a processor!
DAMN!
if only i had the money
and an 8 core!
again the $ ruins the party

Yeah, we won't see 8-cores until next year it looks like. By that time, those will hit consumers harder than quad core is hitting us now. For those that are still skeptic, read it and weep!!!

Nehalem: Single die, 8-cores, 731M transistors, 16 threads, memory controller, graphics, amazing.

Oh, feel free to browse around that site. It has GREAT info on CPUs.

I'm still quite surprised that the new octo-core is expected to come out that soon (technically, about a year from now). I figured at least until late 2009 or even early 2010 at the most, but that articles says late 2008.

That is a plus if indeed, Intel's launch date is that soon. A lot of us can hold off that long to start a nice build. With DDR3 and DDR4 right around the corner, wow, what a combo.

DDR3 SDRAM: Revolution or Evolution?

Looks like DDR4 isn't slated until 2011, lol. Long ways away.

"As for the life span of the DDR3 SDRAM in general, analysts believe that the next generation DDR4 SDRAM should come to replace it in 2011 or so."
