USB Keyboard/Mouse Not Working

Okay, so I have a Dell Dimension 9150 which has no PS/2 ports. There was a power outage during startup so I had to restore the ...\system32\config\system file, and now the USB ports don't work.
My mouse and keyboard are both USB because of the lack of PS/2 ports, and all the USB are integrated into the motherboard.
The keyboard works during the startup, I can get into the BIOS and the boot menus and things.
It just stops when everything loads for some reason, so it gets onto the logon screen and everything freezes.
In the BIOS it says that the USB Device is not present.
Is there a way to fix this without reformatting the hard drive?

Try using a usb port plugged directly into the motherboard then reset the bios to get a clean sweep ... Fix you boot primary and you shud be ready 2 go :D

Er...what was that? :p... I don't think I understood a word of how I'd possibly do what you just said, If I had to do it myself.

If you have the motherboard drivers on disk, re-install the USB 2.0 drivers, as these may have been deleted in the process. You'll find they'll work then :)
