No antistatic wriststrap.

It's also helps to handle the part with great care too. When handling video cards, motherboards, CPU, etc., it's best not to make contact with all the busses, capacitors, resistors, IC's, that 's actually on the board. Hold on to the edges as much as you can.

right, absolutely. I've found that in the manuals manufacturers instruct you to handle components by their edges and it is definitely something a person should follow.

your fine, all last year in my A+ class i never used one, as long as you take those precautions, to me more a waste of money unless your building lots of computers, then get a pad

I'll bet that a lot of the problems we see when users come on here with build problems may relate to this incidient with the static discharge or accidently mishandling the component. It's really, really hard to tell if the part's been shorted out somewhere since we're dealing with such ultra low voltages. Only way to tell is a direct swap of the component with another good one and if that works, the video card or whatever it may be is dead.

never used one also.. personally i think summer is the best time since theres more of an increase in humidity. but ESD has never been a major issue for me. also work on material that cant conduct electricity, like cardboard or something.

I have never used one.

I tend to touch a radiator close by which would get rid of it, and then try and handle the components by the sides only.

Three computers I've built now, which have all been fine, and I've built them with only socks on, kneeling on carpet, with the components on a chair or something...

i do exactly the same everytime i move slightly across the carpet to get a screw driver / component jus tap the radiator and your fine,

I shud be more organised and have the stuff close by but i tend to touch the radiator 5 - 15 times per build, depending on how expensive the parts are,

when i built my mates e6600 a while ago it was like £700 worth of computer so i was hitting that radiator like it was a G spot on a pornstar

i use the straps most days.. where i work it is a requirement to use the straps whenever working on any open circuit cards, i also have an antistatic workbench to work on when im working on any jobs.. personally, if i was working on puter stuff i would use one, just cause i have done many, many courses on static damage..

just put your hands against your fridge or your case and your fine.

ive rebuilt my computer 3 or 4 times, never used a wrist wrap, never done anything. ive even reubuilt it on the carpet, and she still runs fine :)

I built mine on a carpeted floor wearing socks and I move my feet around a lot.... seriously, and nothing happened. you will be fine. if you are so worried, build it with a foot touching a radiator or on a hardwood surface (floor or table)
