What Really Grinds Your Gears?

Fun shmun. I just can't wait to get my license and a car. Who cares about all them little details. ;)

Has anyone accidentally down-shifted instead of up? It's not a very pleasant experience. I went back down to first instead of going up to third once. I almost smacked my head on the steering wheel.
No, but in an old car where the doohickey that prevents you from accidentally engaging reverse gear was badly worn & I dropped into reverse at 40mph , that was spectacular!! gears stripped out, gearbox locked solid & about an inch of stinking rubber left on the highway, there were no "boy racers" in those days, but my mishap sure made it look like it, WOW!!

Yeah, most cars won't let you go into reverse unless you go into neutral first. I don't know what I would do if that happened to me. Did the other gears work?

But you have to remember Chris that this was an old old basic Ford Escort, a real rustbucket I got for next to nothing when I was a single guy, as to the other gears, man that box was solid, r-e-e-a-a-l solid!!

Do you mean like no warranties? Or just paid for it all in the beginning?

Paid for them all up front, around 80% were used, 2 to 3 years olds, the remainder new, I'm just lucky I guess that I've had the cash to do it, & still have, even at my age, but I won't be buying any more, the A class Merc suits me just fine:)
