Friend's PC boots, goes into hibernation immediately.

If I hit the power button on the monitor it says "going to sleep".

Unplugging the HDD also leaves the motherboarrd quiet, so I'm thinking maybe a fried mobo?

hmm weird, is it a microsoft looking "going to sleep" or w/e on the screen? cause nothing microsoft says "going to sleep" it says going into standby or going into hibernation, very odd though, does it boot up at all?

No splash screen to get into BIOS or anything.

It seems like the moniter generated the message. I've tried using another monitor but same result, no screens at all, it just goes to sleep.

if he has another video card to test inside of it slide that in and try it.

also are you personally shutting it down? or is it turning on then immedaitely turning off, if so its probably the PSU
