I'm using 1GB also and everything seems smooth here... no real slowdowns.I think you'll do fine with the upgrade to Vista Premium. Now here's the test. Run this compatibility software before you do anything else to see if you can run it:

But for RAM, anywhere from 2-4GB would be nice. I'm using 1GB and it can crawl when you're doing tons of things on your PC. I see the meter peak a lot. 2GB is ideal.
