What Does Hyperthreading do?

I notice a bit of a difference between HT and non-HT but not much. It multitasks a little better because it doesn't lock up but it's definitely no dual core. I have a P4 3.0 HT and it does everything I need it to just fine. I don't play games very much but it does everything else just fine, I don't see any need to upgrade yet.

It's pretty interesting how this works. What hyperthreading does it that it essentially fools the OS into thinking it's hooked up to two CPUs,

Which is why when you go into Task Manager, you see two different graphs for CPU processes.

It explains hyperthreading in noob language so most can understand it, here's the important bits for those who didn't read it

Modern processors can only handle one instruction from one program at any given point in time. Each instruction that is sent to the processor is called a thread.

The Pentium 4 3.06 GHz processor is the first Intel desktop processor in history that can process two independent threads at the same time.
