Hey all.

I'm trying to decide whether to get a laptop or a desktop. I'm swaying a little more towards the desktop side only because I would really enjoy building my own computer, as well as the fact that the games will play much better (obviously).

I figured I'd post my specs and see what you all thought.

Notice I included an EVGA 8800GT. Specs say it uses PCIe 2.0. I'm not too familiar with that, is it compatible with motherboards that use regular PCIe? I noticed on tomshardware.com they were using a setup that did in thier benchmarks, but it didn't make sense to me.

I too would like to know what PCI E 2.0 is. And for your computer, I would say try to stretch yourself and get the quad core Q6600.

First go with a desktop. There are gaming laptops out there but theyre expensive to say the least. Also, having a desktop enables you to upgrade the various parts as better ones become available.

As to the PCI-E 2.0, yes it will work with a 'normal' PCI-E 1.0 slot so long as the card doesn't use more power than the PCI-E slot can provide, although this shouldn't be a problem since most power supplies have additional PCI-E leads/connectors.

As to the choice of hardware others can help better with that

This is pretty much my limit on cash ATM. If anyone could make any suggestions that stay within $1150 price range I would consider them.

Quad core isn't really an improvement thats worth the money for gaming over a dual core. Besides that would drop the FSB from 1333 to 1066.

btw, a lower fsb is a better thing as it gives more potential for OCing.

and wait 2 week for the nvidia 780i to come out
has pcix 2.0

I'm not interested in overclocking my system.

Core2Quad dosen't provide a significant increase in gaming potential.

I will wait for the 780i to come out, hopefully it will be promising.
