Making File Folders Unsearchable

Is there a way to make a folder on my C drive (hard drive) unsearchable? We have some friends watching our house over the weekend while we're out of town and I don't want to go through the hassle of burning the information I feel is private onto a data cd. Haha, and no it's not porn. I know there are things like Folder Lock and such, I just didn't know if there was a way in "Folder Options" to make a certain folder unsearchable (and the contents within it).

Thanks!

If your hard drive is formatted with NTFS you can easily prevent certain users from viewing your files.

If you do:
First, make a user for people staying at your house. This can be done through the control panel -> users accounts/something similar.

Put all the files you want private in one folder under your username.

Right click the folder, and click properties.

Go to the security tab, and for any user besides the one you use, check all the deny boxes.

Check to make sure the changes worked by logging in with the username you created for your guests and trying to access your private files.

Alternatively, you can download WinRAR, and compress all your files within a password protected folder.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

how computer literate are these friends? you could just right click and then select hidden under properties. not 100% secure but will work if the person doesnt know alot about computers

They aren't the most literate, not that I claim to be very literate.

But, by selecting a folder to be "hidden" what exactly does that entail?

well a hidden folder basicly becomes invisible (assuming your folder options are set to hide hidden folders)

anothing was to do it would be get winrar or similar and but your files in a zip / rar file n put a password on it.

or jus give you friends / visitors a guest account so they cant access anything past C/documents and setting/

in other word they cant see anything that is dedicated to your name including my docs / music / pics / desktop
