PCI-express x1 and x4

Has anyone found any use for these useless slots on the motherboard? I have yet to see any high performance devices take advantage of these new slots. Some high end motherboards only have one PCI slot or none at all, lol.

there are some pci express 1x cards. there is usb, firewire, wireless, etc. havent seen a 4x card though
