need audio help

I'm trying to get my usb headset to work. it was fine, then I tried to build a mic via some info I found (plugged in via mic port), and it didn't work, so I switched back to my usb mic, and now it records really Skippy, and its noisy, like its all static. how can I fix this? all the settings are correct.


update- I switched settings, and its fine for everything else, and I can hear myself when I turn the mic on in the headset.

go to sound options, and if you have a microphone option then make sure its ticked, so its muted, otherwise when you speak you will hear yourself

yeah, its all selected right, but it makes this noise like static is amplified and distorted.
