If i don't need a sound card (because i won't be using an external stereo system) will this computer below will be fine for my need (it has 8 Integrated High Definition audio channels but what does that mean?):

i live in staten island, NY 10302 (anyone living near my area?) and if i decide to build my own and purchase all my parts online (can you get the parts in retail stores also) how long will it take to build it and is it hard to do it because i never build one before.
The one Mattie recommendeds doesn't have what i want (fax/scan modem) so if i get one with windows vista ultimate do i need more ram and memory then if i get windows vista home preimium (don't want windows vista business because it doesn't have windows media center).
Also, is their a software that has a fax/scan build in or a external hardware (so i don't need to buy wiindowx vista ultimate only any windows edition that has windows media center).
Also, please let me know what individual part are recommended to build my own computer. thank you very much

WOW, up to $2500 budget? Whew. The only chipsets I would actually consider for Intel are the P35 and the X38 (extreme performance). Nvidia has the 650i and the 680i chipsets that I consider. With that said,

I think u didn't read my previous comments because from other members stated the price for 2500 is to much since those are for people who want to play the latest games (i won't ever). So all the items you listed was comes to over 2,000 and i never build a computer before so iwon't try it right now.
But if u have any suggestions for other pcs lower then 1,300 please let me know

There's a simple solution to that. Go to www.dell.com. They have some nice prebuilt PCs for a good price. You can easily see the pricing for each model and what you can change should you want something better. Since you don't want to build a PC, this is a good site to get a PC from.

sorry for all the questions but i want to make sure i get the right computer that i don't have to change every 6 month. Anyway, this is my last question and i hope some can answer it:

If i get a pre-build computer from Dell or HP, can i change some parts later on (like HD, Ram and Motherboard) to any of my choice?

Mmmmm, you might be able to. Some cases by service vendors are not customizable meaning that it's hard to change out the motherboard because of fitment issues. You may be able to, or at least you should be able to but I've never done it before. Then if you do get a new motherboard, you'll end up building a new PC anyways. Dell components will most likely be stripped and no longer supported through Dell anymore. Newer motherboards down the road will most likely need new CPU too and possibly RAM upgrade after 3-5 years. My laptop is a Dell and it's disposable, at least that's how I think of it . Can't upgrade anymore than what I have now.

Adding RAM is easy in a Dell PC. That I'm sure you can do. As well as hard drives too. Those are definitely updgradeable.

Okay thanks for all your help I know what i have to get now. All that is left is a computer desk only and for that i won't be needing any room for extra accessories ( CDs space, Printer and game controller etc) just a desk to put my PC and a computer Chair. Also i am 5'6 inches tall, that should help make it easier.
I also want to let you know before anyone recommended anything that i live in the attic of our house but its not like other attics because it the size of 2 bedrooms, over 6 feet long, comfortable but its curved like any other attic. So i don't need a desk that is too long (although i have a 5'7 ft file cabanet tall.) Please let me know your opinions. Thank you!

For computer desks, I would just go to WalMart and look at their selections. You don't really need a fancy big one. I don't even use a computer desk, but a long utility table. It fits everything I need on it and under it. I have a short filing cabinet right under the table so it's a perfect fit. Plus, I have a lot of desktop space due to it being a utility table. The LCD monitor helps further to maximize space too. It's great. I can easily afford a specialized computer desk, but this table works so well that I see no need for one. The table is kind of like a folding one in which you can easily move it outside for picnics and such.

Your filing cabinet is about standard size (tall) which means it will have to be in the corner all by itself (or right next to your desk) since it won't fit under any type of computer desks.

As for the TV tuner card, they come in PCI expansion cards meaning that they will fit onto PCI slots found on the motherboard. Im' sure Dell motherboards will have one available. PCI are starting to become less and less throught the years because of newer PCI express slots. But when you do call Dell, ask them if a TV Tuner Card can be installed into it or if you can upgrade it later. The installation of it is actually really, really easy. Plug and play, that's it. Then load the software to view the TV channels. Drivers really aren't necessary for most new tuner cards since Vista have native support for them. But the TV Tuner comes with drivers just in case.
