Best Method to Replace Protected DLL's in XP?

It's been awhile since I've been able to consistently win the battle with Windows File Protection so that I can replace corrupt DLL's and other system files.

Can someone please provide me with a tried and true method or tool so that I don't have to keep reinventing the wheel?

id personally use the recovery console, or try safe mode.
something like this may also work.
