As some of you know, one of my friends who is a recovering drug addict fell off the recovery wagon and in a relapse he stole all the money I had to build a new PC, I have since earned almost enough to pay for a new rig but the last list I had put together either went up or some parts were discontinued, so now that I'm not (completely) broke this is what I plan on building.

-Y'all think that setup will work? also, if something is OEM (like the hard drive) does that mean I have to buy cables? or are they included?

-Does that build look like it would stay cool? all I have in the way of cooling is the fans that come on the case.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Looks nice. A few minor points:
- Even though it's only 550 watts, this PSU is much better. And it'll still easily power your rig:

- The Seagate drive is much better. I had the 250GB version of that WD drive, and it failed within a few months. I got that Seagate drive, and it's great. Noticeably faster.


OEM does mean you have to get cables separately. However, the motherboard should come with whatever cables you need.

The build should be more than cool enough. You don't need an aftermarket heatsink unless you plan on heavily overclocking. Even then, you should be able to get a few hundred MHz out of the CPU with the stock cooler.

Typically both the Seagate and WD drives are extremely reliable.

I have 2x 320GB WD drives, 2x 500GB WD drives, 2x 500GB Seagate drives, and a 320GB seagate drive. The WD drives outbench the seagate drives slightly.

I'd get a cheaper case and a better processor, as well as ditch the sound card as most people will be happy with integrated.

All looks good. I'd go with the 2nd Harddrive and no soundcard (mobo has 8 channel audio which is good enough IMO), then upgrade the Vid card to an 8800GTS 640MB.

Do you already have an OS ready to install?

deff get ride of sound card onbored is more then enough
get the 320g hard drive
get 640mb version of 8800
and get a 650watt psu for upcoming cards

If you only got so much money, get a cheaper case. If you got enough money for this stuff, get a cheaper case, then upgrade some stuff.

I have that case, and it's amazing. Much better than the Antec cases that everyone thinks are so great. Newegg has it for a lot cheaper though:

As for the PSU, the Antec I recommended is going to be the best bang for your buck. You don't need a 650 watt PSU, and you're wasting your money. That PSU will power SLI 8800GTSs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Barracuda 7200.10 is faster than the Western Digital SE16?

And if you have really nice speakers, you're not going to want onboard sound. I have that motherboard, and it was a world of a difference after buying a sound card with my Logitech Z-5500 speakers

My 320GB WD's bench 66.7 and 64.7 average, and my 500GB Seagates bench 61.6 and 60.7 average.

I'd bench my 500GB western digitals but I'm getting extremely odd results

Oh yeah the burst on the WD's is also 170ish where as the seagates are 113ish

Hey, sorry to bring up a (somewhat) older thread, but I decided to go for a new motherboard instead of a open box one. So now I'm just trying to find one that will work with E6300 proc, support DDR2 800 Memory and have RAID capability for around 150-$170ish.

So far these are two I'm looking at

1.) get the E6320, its like the same price and more cache.
2.) get the 8800GT, dont worry about pci-e 2.0
3.) why so much on a case? i like buying cheap cases, and modding them, that way if you screw up, you didnt break a 150$ case
