my video card has an S-video output which i use for my 24 inch widescreen CRT tv every now and then. it only supports a resolution of 1024 by 768, and it is as pixelated as hell for some reason, so it looks like crap.

Ok, your computer monitor is not HD, its actually XHD or Xtreme High def. Read that on Nvidias website. Think about it, your HD tv, is generaly 720p which is 13**x720 I think. Some are 1080p, which is 1920x1080 or something. A 1080p is usually 50" or so, and 720p from 30"+ on average. My computer monitor is 20.1" The highest resolution is 1680x1050, so technicaly, thats not quite as big as a 1080p, but the pixels are packed into a much smaller area, for smaller pixels, and there for extremly clear resolution.
Understand what I am saying? So really, the resolution of a computer monitor is much higher than HD.

dude you couldnt be more wrong. full HD is 1080p. anything under that isnt "full" HD. so how could 1680x1050 be XHD. Ya sure, it has more DPI (dots per inch) but resolution is lower. 720p is 1280x720. For something to be classified as HD, it has to have 720 vertical pixels. horizontal doesnt matter. they can make a 400x720 display and it would be classified HD. but full hd is 1080p

Is there much point going for a full 1080p screen, compared with a 720p you think?
Probably be looking for a new TV in the next 6 months or so, and yeah... I'll probs end up paying for it...

get 1080p. better for the long run. 720 is for posers and rich people who dont know what their buying and believe whatever the bestbuy guy tells them. lol

I see what you mean, and you are correct, it isnt full HD, but it still looks better, its only missing 30 pixels, but the DPI is so much higher.
There is this sticker on my monitor that says, 1080i/1080p HD mode ready. What does that mean? As it cant go to that high a res?

1080p HD mode ready means it can take a HD resolution like 1920x1080 and scale it down to your 1680x1050

and about nvidias site...its called advertising
