ok about 6 months ago my "family" computer Broke think it was motherboard so im jus scrapping it for parts and about a month ago we cancelled our broadband with orange because we were gonna swap to Be broadband coz we can get 5Mb from them.

but my mum really doesnt want to get the broadband coz she says it will only be me using it and im the only 1 that wants it now every1 else is like we dont have a comp to go on it so im planning an extreme budget build for an early Xmas present for my family so i get broadband lol

so here goes.

Graphics Card : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/133004

Power Supply : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/61308

Case : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/108280

i have the hardrive and Cd drive and OS

its upgrading from

Celeron 1.7 Ghz
512Mb DDR RAM

Yeah I think thats not a bad budget build, the video card is well...crap lol.

It's using TurboCache which takes away from teh systems memory to use for the Graphics card.

If you can I would spend the extra money and get this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116162

Cause if it's a family computer and you have a little brother or something that wants to play a game it should be OK.

no the graphics card is fine trust me its literally only to be able to connect a monitor the most graphic intensive thing that will have to take is solitare lol.

or maybe a few online flash games but trust me that card is fine

then dont get a GFX at all then, your cpu should be able to handle that load easy with the onboard graphics,

i dont think the mobo has onboard graphics thats y i got it ?

let me jus check

yep apparently it does sorry about that cancel the graphics card i will be using the onboard

so other than that its all ok yh.

what about the equivalen Intel machine ?

Pentium D 925 or the E2160 ? ill check Toms hardware

I doubt you could OC A Pentium E2160 to the speed's of an high end C2D...
I guarantee you can. The E6600 is only at 2.4 GHz, bumping up the clock speed 600 MHz isn't too hard for a Core 2 Duo. You still don't have the Conroe core or extra cache of the higher end chips, but it'll be good.

Yep it is certainly possible it may not have been with the older architecture Netburst that the Pentiums used to be based on but they are now based on the Core architecture the same as that used in the C2D processor minus the extra cache and lower FSB.
