interesting, but what does the X stand for in the QX9650? i understand that the Q is quad-core so could the X be extreme? because it is hitting 3 Ghz?

X means its fully unlocked, and you can raise the multiplier of the processor in the BIOS to gain a quick overclock.
Ones that aren't unlocked, only allow you to lower the multiplier, and so, you only have the choice of raising the FSB (Front Side Bus) to increase speeds.

nice new processors at very good prices again intel adding more competition to the Q6600

1 thing i dont understand is

Q9300_____2.5Ghz,__12MB L2 cache, 95W TDP____January 2008_____$266

E8500_____3.16Ghz,__6MB L2 cache, 65W TDP____January 2008_____$266

surely thats a no brainer ?

i mean yh the e8500 has a higher clock speed so some games that are not quad compatible will play slightly better but anyone who has even touched upon overclocking will surely go for the Q9300 ?

maybe they use different fsb's and thus being aimed at completely diff ppl

I'm liking that, it makes me wanna wait longer to upgrade. I still wanna see how AMD is going to handle these.

This pricess are accurate for resellers but the exact amount they will retail for individually is still unknown. If the super expensive QX9650 is $1000 per thousand when they usually go for $1200 retail my guess is everything will be 15% more. But yeah, the Q9450 seems like the new Q6600. 12mb cache. /drool

I like the look of the Q9300. That would probably be my choice. You can still use Core2Quad compatible motherboards on these chips correct?
