Router Going Bad

I noticed that when I plug my computer directly into my cable modem my internet and gaming pings are less than 150.
When I plug it into my Linksys WRT54G router that i've had for over a year, they jump to 300-500. I've reset it a few times, I don't know, maybe its going bad? Should I get a new one?

EDIT: Maybe its not my router, I guess my isp is still doing stuff because now my pings are in the 400's again...

is your cable modem through USB?

And i'm assuming your router (wired i guess?!) plugs into your computers networking ports?

The router is wireless with 4 ports on the back for a wired solution...
The modem is not through USB.

well there goes my theory.. lol

EDIT: Does the router have any effect on the other computers on your network as far as you know?

Try going into the router and check what the connection speed it's set to. A lot of time, we can have it set to "Auto Negotiate" or "Auto Detect". Have you notice a difference if you were to disable the security/encryption on it?
