Hello
Yesterday my brother's computer broke, I tried fixing it and in the process I think I broke one of the HDD pins and CDRW-DVD pins. My father gave the computer to one of his so called “computer tech†guys and he sad in order to fix the HDD its going to cost around $300 (Maybe a bit less) + the cost of a new CDRW-DVD, my brother sad he had some important stuff on the HDD that he would like to save. The computer that my brother has is old; I think it has P4 (around 2 GHz), 700mb of ram & I gat him NVIDIA 6800 about 1 year ago. I was planning on giving my computer to my brother in about 2 month (my comp is in my sig) & I was planning on getting the top of the line one for my self, once the new CPU's come out I will compare them and make my choice + the new 9800 will come in November.
As some of you might notice this total repair is going to cost around $400, plus-minus, I honestly think his entire computer doesn't cost that much lol. The bottom line is my brother needs his own computer to use for at least 2 more months, but spending so much on just a repair is crazy.
What I was thinking is to forget about the HDD repairs (he will get over it) and assembling an almost new computer for him, prob no more then $500 so he can use it for the next 2 month, and then change the parts from the rig that I or should I say we will build now and put them inside my rig, that's in my sig. If you take a look at my sig, my CPU & Ram are not exactly new… Will it be possible to get him a Dual core, Motherboard, DD2 Ram, some very small HDD maybe 20G? & maybe new power supply, everything for about $500? I am trying to save money here and still get a nice rig at the end. The parts that I will be switching are CPU, Motherboard & Ram, everything else I think can be as is.
Can you guys help? I am open for suggestions.
Thanks.
