How weird is that?!

I'd be rather suspicious though. Many times I've heard, where something was left that looked innocent enough but contained a bomb, etc, or in some cases poison if it was a kids toy left, etc.
Its definetly happened...

Anyhow, er... good luck? :p

For $20 yesterday...

17" CRT
AMD Athlon MP Palomino 1.5 ghz cpu
384 megs of ram
ati radeon 9550

I thought it was a pretty good deal.

It's amazing how cheap you can find decent computers!

poison? nuh uh

its just a computer that somebody threw out. im sure of that. it was there with some other garbage

I've gotten quite a few donations of PCs.

My most recent ones (specs from memory):

Athlon XP 2GHz
ASUS mobo
512MB ram
120GB HDD
added a DVD ROM/CD-RW
9200LE 128MB
aftermarket HSF
nice LED case
(sold it for $250 after I reinstalled Windows and added upgrades)

Dell
1.7 GHz Celeron (upgraded to 1.8)
256MB (upgraded to 512MB)
20GB HDD (upgraded to 40GB)
CD-RW
(sold for $150)

Dell
2.8GHz Celeron
512MB
20GB (upgraded to 40GB)
CD-RW
(sold for $200)

1.8GHz P4
no ram (added 256MB)
no HDD (added 20GB primary 120GB secondary)
some kind of optical drive (I now have a DVD ROM and CD-RW)
some kind of ATI graphics card 64 or 128MB
(using it as a server)

HP
2.5GHz Celeron
512MB
no HDD (added 40GB)
DVD ROM and CD-RW
(hope to sell for $220)

Note that all of these PCs I have been given to me, I only paid some for upgrades if i didn't have something already. It's amazing what people will give away. The people do know that I just rebuild and resell them, they give them to me anyway. I even get quite a few P3's and the like to make a bit of extra cash after rebuilding them. If you have access to PCs for free or cheap in some way, try rebuilding them so they function well and then resell it. It's definitely an easy way to earn some extra money. Gotta sell 2 more PCs to get my new build. :D

no it's not. Thrown out things have no owner, and no privacy restrictions. If I wanted to, I could go through my neighbors garbage every Friday and take what I want. It's perfectly legal. It's all part of the search and seizure laws.
In England it is unlawful for anybody to take items that are put out for collection by council refuse services.

It's creepy how you always manage to find old computers lying around.

Chances of finding them in Newfoundland....... extremely extremely low.
