notebook and external monitor

Hey all,

As my inspiron 1520 max resolution is 1440x900 will that mean that the Samsung SyncMaster 226BW will not display very well as the native resolution is 1680x1050?

Or is it possible to have a higher resolution on an external monitor than what is on the laptop?

No, it depends on the GPU. Do you have the Data for that?

Well its a 256mb 8600m Gt, is that good enough?

I think it will display fine at 1680 by 1050. I checked it and its max resolution seems to be 1680x1050, so you should be fine.

Just one other question..my 17" lcd monitor that i use supports 1280x1024..but when i connect the vga from laptop to it..it only comes up at 1280x864 or something.

Any ideas?
