Hey guys,

i built my first computer a couple of years ago so you can only imagine how out-dated my parts are. i was thinking of upgrading but i am unaware as to which parts...FIRST, here is my current setup (if i dont explain the parts in detail, i am sorry)

-Abit NF7-S Nforce 2 motherboard (Socket 939)
-AMD CPU - really dont remember all specs =/
-ATI Radeon 9600 Pro PCI
-1GB RAM (forgot the manufact.)
-Thermal 300W Power Supply
-Aftermarket heatsink

given the fact that i am at a tight budget, i was thinking of replacing/upgrading my PSU / CPU and heatsink. i thought about all this when my computer started to run REALLY slow and my CPU was unreadable some how....i need help as to what you guys believe i should do. if i was to keep the MB, then what CPU could i get and a reliable/GOOD heatsink and fan to go with it. Also what is a good reliable PSU?

im scared to change my MB because then i think i will have to replace everything else...please somebody help lol i just want my computer to get back up and running smoothly. i am just confused as to which parts to replace and what new parts to replace them with...all opinons will be greatly appreciated...thank you

Well I'm not a AMD person but it would appear your selection of processors is limited on that socket. Heres a list of applicable processors for your current board.

I'm not really sure what your HT support is or if it isn't a problem with your board. Cause some of those have 1000Mhz HT and the cheaper ones have 2000Mhz HT.

Not sure why you want to upgrade the PSU if its running your current card fine and your not planning on upgrading the GPU.

Heatsink check out the Arctic Cooler Freezing 64 link- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185125

You'd probally be better off to just save up some money and replace the board. If you want to replace the psu/cpu and heatsink why not add a board in there as well. Is that ATI Radeon 9600 pro a regular PCI or PCI-E?

its a PCI card not PCI-E....
the only reason of me wanting to upgrade the PSU is because my case consists of about 9 fans and i noticed there is hardly ne airflow on each fan so i thought getting a higher watt PSU will generate a better airflow...
now for the MB...if i was to replace the MB i will most likely need to place my RAM as well...what suggestions do u have for good MB's out... reminder, i dnt want to be spending a large large ammount...i thought this will be an easy and cheap way to fix up my computer because i do have a lot of the necessary components already i jus wanted some professional help and suggestions....what do you believe i should do =]

Well socket 939 appears to be a dated board. What type of budget do you have for the upgrades? You'd be looking at roughly $600 give or take on upgrading your board/cpu/psu/gpu/ram.

I was pretty sure you meant a normal PCI slot thats a bit dated itself. It would be better to have a board with PCI-E and DDR2 support.

I'd wait for some other responses if thats to much money for a complete upgrade. I have no experience with actual AMD systems so wait for some AMD owners comments on best possible bang for your buck on the 939 board if you can't afford to upgrade it.

at the time of my first build i was an AMD customer but now i really do not care lol...600 dollars seems reasonable but only to the extent that what im getting is GOOD and not just average...if u have an INTEL build set in ur mind then u can feel free to give me a few hardware suggestions...im taking in as much information as possible to make this procedure work in the end...

i greatly appreciate your help

Okay heres what I came up for ya.

Evga NF-63TR board. $159.99 This board is a great core2duo overclocking board. It will work with quad cores but will not overclock them. Your not going extreme on the build thats why I suggested this board. You would need to make sure you update to the P-30 Bios for the CPU I have listed. This board will not support future 1333FSB quad cores only dual core systems.

E6550 core2duo $175.99 with the 1333FSB make sure you update the bios to P-30 for the 1333FSB support.

G.Skill 2X1 gig PC6400 low latency $99.99 This ram owns

XFX Geforce 8600GT, This graphics card will offer you full DX10 support for Vista. Not a high end card but should play games on medium/high settings

This PSU should provide more than enough juice for you the Antec 550W high effeciency $99.99.

Total works out to $675.95 minus the $20 Rebate on the GPU so its really $650.95. You really wouldn't need to upgrade the HSF unless you plan on going for ultra clocks. With that board/ram/cpu combo you should hit around 2.7-2.8Ghz with the stock cooler.

thats a bit overpriced for just a couple upgrades...i rather save a little more money n just make a whole new computer...but i could try to work around that...i think i came to conclusion to keep my MB and just upgrade CPU / PSU / and cooling...

then if anything i could jus upgrade my MB to another 939 board and swap CPU's...i think tahts my best bet for now but i greatly appreciate your help
