I have been wanting to build a computer on my own but I don't know where to start. I have never built one before and am a little nervous. The only reason I am going to build it myself is that I can get a lot better computer cheaper than buying a prebuilt machine. I have been told it is a lot easier than I think to build one. Do you really have to know what you are doing?

The computer I am going to build(hopefully) is going to be used for games like GRAW, GRAW2, Doom 3, Far Cry, BF2142 and some of the newer games like Crysis, COD4 Modern Warfare and maybe Bioshock. I will also use it for other stuff like internet, email, music, and photos.

I have been researching on other forums and this is what I have came up with:

As for the hard drive and dvd drive, the computer has 2 of each so I will just take one of them out. And the operating system I am just going to use XP for now and save up so I can upgrade to Vista and a DX10 card like the 8800GTS, maybe 2 of them. What do you all think of that setup? I am open to suggestions. I read the reviews for that CPU and they say it runs hot. Should I be worried about that? I don't plan on overclocking any. Also they say the case is fairly loud.

well im i getting ready to build a pc too got my list all straightned out with these guys on the forums ill tell u this right now a quad core is useless nothin out right now supports them im gonna suggest u get a C2D E6850 its clocked at 3.0ghz and has a FSB of 1333mhz and a 4mb cach i dont know what ur budget is but as for a mobo id say a evga 680i A1 version mobo as for the ram id suggest this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034 id also like to suggest a antech 900 case awsome cooling and if ur gonna over clock i recommend a btter than stock heat sink id say a tuniq 120 would be great id say if your saving for a 8800gts do that and get the gpu u have listed

My budget is around 900. The cheaper the better. I do not plan on doing any overclocking.

The reason I would like to get the quad core is because I plan on keeping this system for awhile hopefully without upgrading besides the GPU

Do you think that PSU will be enough?

well idk bout the psu im gonna use a OZC gamer xtreme 700 wat psu but them again im spending round 1800 bucks on a pc
with the mobo i listed u can always upgrade to a quad core but as i said nothing supports quads yet and the E6850 is faster than the quad u listed

Well, that processor you have mentioned costs a little more.

Do you see any bottlenecking or compatibility issues with this setup?

I use an OCZ GameXStream 600W and it's great, and I think it's a little cheaper than the one you have listed. The case is personal preference but I'm not a huge fan of it. The other stuff will do if you're on a budget but don't cheap out on the RAM if you're getting a nice processor. You could probably find better timings and clock speeds for just a little more.

The reason I'm picking on the case is because it's a little expensive for what you're getting, I got my NZXT for like $10 more and it's completely screwless, which makes setup and upgrading a breeze. Just something you may want to consider, you don't realize how nice a screwless system is until you use it.

that is the psu im getting a very good one for the price as far as ram im going with OZC also ddr2 800 and yes 2 gig will be fine ocz is good ram kingston and patriot i not know much bout ram but i belive those three are good

D-Lew, what is wrong with my case? It is only 60 bucks and it is screwless.

What kind of numbers should I be looking for on ram?
