My god this has to be a bug I almost freaked out!!

Okay so I was busy seeing what a lower multi vs a higher FSB might do performance wise. So I lowered my multi to 8x and cranked the FSB to 1763. Upped my memory timings to 4,4,4,12 and ran a 1:1 ratio with ram set at 882 in the bios. So i'm off to see if it is stable.

Bring up orthos and start running. First anomoly I spot orthos is reading my cpu as 3966mhz not 3525mhz. Okay whatever probally doesn't reconize the lower multi.

After about 10mins i'm getting like a high of 57C in orthos. I peak back a minute later and its saying my cpu is at 107C!!! OMFG WTF GASP!!! Amazed and like o crap i'm like hmm its gotta be a error. Right underneath the main cpu temp it was displaying each core around 45-47C. If both the cores were that low how on earth could the cpu be 107C overall. I just ran a system bench with everest and its showing 3533mhz but everest cupid is showing the correct 3525mhz.

There is no way that was accurate right??? I went ahead and tried a throttle test when it was showing like 100C and it didn't throttle which by all means you would think it would just blow up if it was really running that temp.

I restarted and checked the bios and it was showing like 40C so its gotta be jacked right/////

At least I was right it would increase performance. Test results are in.

1763FSB 8x Multi left / 1567FSB 9x Multi right

Memory read 10,994MB/s Vs 9,932MB/s
Memory write 7,983MB/s Vs 7,143MB/s
Memory copy 7,062MB/s Vs 6,866MB/s
Latency 48.5ns Vs 52.6ns

CPU tests are mixed
CPU queen 7,070 vs 7098
CPU PhotoWorxx 19719 vs 19625
CPU Zlib 45,988 vs 46,329
FPU Julia 13,243 vs 13,352
FPU Mandel 6,420 vs 6462
FPU SinJulia 9,662 vs 9,744

It definately makes the memory much faster but it loses a little ground on most of the cpu tests.

Yeah man, not way that was real. I have gotten temps like that but it never booted up with them.

just dont bother with the 8x multiplier IMO, you ram can probably OC farther if you pushed it, thats if you wanted that performance increase as well as the cpu.

if i were you i would put the timings at 5-5-5-15 and run them as high as they go, probably in the 1200's :p that would be sick, that would be almost as fast as low end DDR3

I don't think i'll get to 1200Mhz. Some reviews suggest around 1100-1150Mhz with a slight volt increase. Maybe i'll screw around with it tommorow and up the clocks. i really should get around to making 3.6 stable.

BTW you see the new 1866 DDR3?
