So I've replaced my Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 4x 512mb sticks with 4x 1GB Sticks of OCZ Platinum Revision 2.

Yesterday I purchased one kit (2x 1GB) and it picks it up fine fixed my bios settings for timings and everything.

I got rid of all my overclocks and voltage changes and let the bios autodetect as it pleases, everything works fine except for what Windows XP says.

Today I bought another kit, same memory and windows as you can see only shows it as 3.50GB when it should really be four, but when looking at it in a program such as CPU-Z it really shows there is 4GB.

If it matters Im running Windows XP Professional 2002 w/ SP2 Preinstalled

Is this just a bug with the windows explorer or what?

Thanks for any help.

Windows XP is only 32 bit, so it cannot address the full four gigs of RAM. That is why the Windows properties only sees 3.5 GB. However, everything you have can use the full 4 if it really wants too.

yeah if you want xp to be able to see all 4GB youll have to upgrade to 64bit xp.

note if your thinking of upgrading to vista youll also need 64 bit
