core 2 duo capable?

How can I find out whether my mobo is c2d capable? It is a LGA775 socket, but with the new c2d i bought it doesnt seem to work, when I installed it and turned on the computer all that happened is the case fan went really hard and the computer didnt boot.

i highly doubt it was power supply problem because i put the original back in and it works just fine. it was an e4400.

It's probably best to get the specs of the motherboard. FInd out the make and model. Get a software utility like Sandra, Everest, Hwinfo or some other type that will tell you the name of the motherboard and hopefully what model they are. Even CPU-Z can tell you info in regards to your mainboard.

Then once you get the info on that, you can proceed to their website to look up the full specs of it. It will eventually tell you what CPU it can support.
