wireless internet problem

my girlfriends computer seems to have a problem with it's wireless internet connection...
she has a dell xps m2010 and a linksys wireless router for the internet connection.
for some reason her connection always messes up saying it has limited or no connectivity and sometimes windows can't repair it at all, even with restarting the computer.
any ideas on why this happens and how it can be fixed?

edit: her brother also has the exact same computer but never seems to have this problem, nor does he have the problem on his other laptop.

Firstly is her brothers computer running of the same router? if it is not then try updating the firmware of the router , if they are then look up the make of the wireless card in the dell then see if there is an update from the manufactures web site.

does this happen when you both try to connect or have you tried just your gf's laptop?
it could be conflicting ip addresses, mac filtering, a wrong wep/wpa key, etc.

yeah it runs on the same router.
and yeah it seems to be the ip address that's the problem because when windows tries repairing it, renewing the ip address is where it always gets stuck.
and i JUST updated her wireless card and that didn't seem to fix the problem.

are you sure she has proper access to the network?
so no mac filtering and a proper wpa/wep key

Did you set a static IP address? That is, did you manually specify an IP address on your girlfriend's laptop? If so, is it on the same "subnet"? A subnet is the first three groups of an IP address. With your type of network, those need to be the same on all devices on that network, or you will run into issues. Your best bet, use all dynamic IP addresses. The router will assign the IP addresses that way.
