torrents use a centralized hub that ur computer must connect to in order to download, this hub is called a tracker. torrents arent as prone to virus because the hub gets rid of the crap, so there isnt as many files to display, limewire and bearshare always have duplicates and files that are sumtimes and most of the time filled to the gills with viruses or crappy sound quality...limewire, etc arent connecting to anything other than peoples computers, rather than a central server

Not at all! All the tracker does is coordinate who uploads to who, and who downloads from who. A tracker doesn't even usually contain information about the files in the download!!! Most torrent sites do check torrents for malware though. Mininova is probably the best one.

Believe me, you can still get plenty of viruses from BitTorrent. The thing is, it's much easier to distribute them via Limewire, etc, so people use that more.

ur partly right i suppose, it is easier just to use limewire or sumthing, but i believe that torrents give you exactly what u want usually, and not the crap thats downloaded for limewire, etc. i'd rather go thru an extra hoop for mor secure and effiecient downloads

Well, depends. If you use a reliable torrent site, then you're usually good. I have run into on occasion though when downloading games and such cases where installers or other things have viruses/malware patched into them.

I'm not so sure whether there is such a thing as reliable sites but we do tend to favor some well I do anyway, definitely games and programs tend to be the high risk ones its usually those that have a crack or keygen with them, thats normally where the viruses is hidden, there is also these new players that have suddenly surf-est like 3w player where it tells you to go to a website and install their software only for you to get a load of hidden bundled software and malaware.

i use limewire and torrents. i know the risks and i know they can both be filled with crap (more limewire than torrents). so ive got a firewall, av and i select my files carefully. im also not a huge downloader, well i probs download about 30-40gb a month if that, which compared to some isnt very much

haha, well it depends. some months i wont download a thing. some ill get loads. the other month i downloaded like 5 seasons of family guy, they are like 3gb each and then some other stuff like music albums, thats just off the top of my head.
