New PC build -RECEIVED- :D

Re: New PC build definite :D

Looking at the dollar difference, it looks a lot more expensive than what I was going to get.
The 1333FSB's are the new processors right?

Re: New PC build definite :D

That processor can easily hit 3Ghz, thats what I have mine on as my daily overclock, I've had it up to 3.9 without raising voltages. Also, you may want to consider the 640MB GTS if your going to be running games and stuff at a higher resolution.
Haha, no you didn't. You probably just have it set to automatically select the voltage.

I've also heard the current E6600's aren't so good. The E6750 sounds alright.

Re: New PC build definite :D

Yes, the 1333FSB's are the new procs. They only board I know that is good at over-clocking and supports 1333FSB is the Evga 680i board.

If you decide to go for it, just make sure you get at least the P30 version of their BIOS installed. While it has always been compatable with the 1333 FSB, that version of BIOS kicked the support in gear to eliminate problems (which were few from what I have seen).

Re: New PC build definite :D

Haha, wow, this is getting complex...

Actaully... that processor isn't that different in price, and is actually cheaper since its on special offer:

So, if I get that, and a motherboard that supports the new processor, I should be okay? :D

Hascet, I found the motherboard you stated at Microdirect here and its really cheap:

Will that be sufficent? Or should I go for the more expensive EVGA nForce 680i SLI Motherboard, Celegorm suggested?

I've heard good things about the Asus P5K mind, but I may be thinking about the Deluxe version.

One thing I don't want, is to overclock, and for the temperatures to be wildly high, as that would worry me, so, if i can't overclock without reaching in the 60's at load, I won't bother anyhow probably.

Ok

At microdirect the E6750 is actually cheaper than the E6600, the 6750 is 99.99

Re: New PC build definite :D

I can't speak on what board you should get, as I have only seen the Evga one in action. I've heard the Asus boards suffer from Voltage drops, but I don't know if that's all boards, or if that's even true.

Don't worry about heat so much. As long as the case provides good air flow, people have done a lot on stock heatsinks with the core 2s.

Re: New PC build definite :D

thats a really good build. probably just a tad bit better than mine when im finished unless my psu allows me to OC my even farther :D.

this makes more excited than i already am! im like a kid who is about the get one of the things he has been waiting for his whole life...wait i am :p

that 8800GTS is EXPENSIVE compared to what i bought mine for. maybe a buddy in the usa will ship it to you :p because i bout mine for 280$ with a 20$ rebate from newegg. after VAT yours is 190 pounds 380$!!
does everything cost that much more in the UK?

Re: New PC build definite :D

Here's another thing to make it more complicated. If you get the G0 stepping on the E6750, you may have to run really high Vcore to get that high. It's been hit-or-miss with the current stepping, I have no idea why.

Re: New PC build definite :D

Could someone explain this stepping? I've heard it mentioned somewhere else too, but couldn't make much sense of it... Is there any way of finding out what a chip has before you buy it?

Thanks to everyone for their support so far.

Rudster, yes, I'm afraid the UK always seems to get thrown off when it comes to prices. That said, a $100 difference doesn't seem right, as that'd mean you got the 8800GTS for £128 which is cheaper than a last generation GPU, haha.

Thanks celegorm, but I've heard rumours about the voltage drops too, so I may steer clear of them for this build :)

I've found out though, that the board I chose previously, the Abit-motherboard-IP35-Pro, supports 1333mhz chipsets, and Custom PC had no problem shifting their lower cored E6420 (originally 2.13ghz) to 3.32GHZ:
