Old games + Vista = :(

So I've decided I wanted to play one of my older games, final fantasy 8. I installed it on my laptop with no problem, but when I try to start it, it crashes. It is a DirectX 6.1 game I think. I tried all the compatibility crap, with no fix. Works perfectly fine in my virtual machine (XP) but it lags from time to time.

You guys know any fix? I really wanna play this game on Vista, not in my VM.

dual boot xp and vista

Yeah, I thought about doing that. But then I realized how dumb it sounded. Dual booting just to play 1 game. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Any other suggestions?

I might just have too dual boot if no one else knows a fix :(

Stop using a buggy as hell OS with virtually no support for anything MS shows no interest in. j/k

But really, when I played FF7 and FF8 on PC... I broke out an older PC and played it on windows 95.... ran perfect.. not just good... perrrrrrfect. It wouldn't run properly on 2000/xp.

If you don't have an older system on hand, then I suggest using a playstation emulator to play it (it has better music on that version anyway, MIDI FTL)
