ok im getting ready right now to get some ram for my laptop. right now i have 1 gig (2x512mb) 333MHz DDR ram and was wondering if i could get DDR2 for it and also does it have to be a certain pin size

You can't mix DDR and DDR2 they are two different memory types. If you post your laptops make and model I'm sure we can point you in the right direction in memory type and brand

its a compaq presario V2718WM with an
ADM Turion 64 mobile processor (1.8GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, up to 1600MHz system bus)
XP Home Edition
2x512MB 333MHz DDR ram
80 gig hard drive (4200rpm)
ATI Radeon xpress 200M IPG with 128MB DDR video card

im upgrading to Vista
im upgrading to 2 gigs of ram (1 gig each)
im upgrading to a 120 gig hard drive

i need help finding good ram thats less then $50 if possible

You need to get DDR which is 184-pin. Do you have any more RAM slots in your laptop? If so, you can get these which are really good and on sale (see regular price). If you need to get a 2x1gb set then I really don't think there is a set for under 50 bucks.

Edit: Also, if you could find out the make+model of your current RAM it would be to your advantage to get 2 of the same sticks (helps stability).
