When you put a CD into your DVD drive, does it show any error at all?
Go into My Computer and try opening the CD up by double clicking on the drive's icon there.

it shows a cannot read thing. and when i go to the drive icon it just says no disk inserted.

the drive could be bad or the disk could be scratched up real bad

i would say its a drive problem because the disks are new and i have tried a lot of disks. the only cds that the dvd drive reads are audio cds.

well have you tried putting a blank disc in and writing a file to it?
it wont do much if you insert a blank disc
