I wouldn't go too extreme with the build if I were you, but it's your choice. From what I can gather, FSX is EXTREMELY CPU bottlenecked at the moment, at least until they release a patch for it. Reason being is my brother's 8600 is pretty much idling when he plays it, CPU is maxed out, and it goes a little faster than my PC. You should do well with the Core 2. So...
If I were you I'd toss the 1000W PSU unless you plan on going SLI with those cards pretty soon. Also, you could just stick with "ordinary" Corsair XMS like celegorm said and save some green. The Raptor, eh, your choice, but I honestly wouldn't spend that much on a drive. There's a lot of tricks to get more for less we like to call "overclocking." So don't go too insane and buy the expensive gimmicky stuff because usually it isn't that much better than the "lower-high-end" stuff. Meaning it's not worth the extra $100.

Nice PSU, but you'll never use that much power. Get a better quality one with less wattage like these, it'll last you longer and be more reliable:

Don't get a BluRay or HD-DVD player, it's a waste of money until we know which one comes out on top. You don't want to shell out $500 for that thing and have HD DVD end up winning the format war, making it useless.

Well sir, surely enough everyone would want the Quad core extreme but nowadays applications arent wel enough to even handle 2 cores, so that is why most people prefer E6600/6700

wow, this thread got a lot of input. i think im going to go through and make a finalized list to keep it handy in case i ever come across the 4 to 5 thousand dollars it would take to build it. of course, im going to keep the list up to date with the newest parts, so i dont think that will be a problem.
i have noticed a lot of input on getting a quad core or a dual core processor. im still going to keep that debate open, and when i have the money for it, i will decide. im still thinking a quad core would be great even though almost all programs are still designed to run on single cores. for those who ask, i dont plan on overclocking anything i get (only because i want the parts to live longer). you also have to take into account that you can set some programs to run on one core, and another program the other. something like affinity, i dont play around with that. i would still pick a dual core over anything else, because quads can be a little... extreme..
