One sensor on my CPU says it is hot all the other read 20 degrees lower.

My fan whines unnecessarily, i can have it off for two days. come in. pull up two browser windows and my fan is howling at the moon.

thing is i am running

DualCore Intel Pentium D 805, 2666 MHz (20 x 133)

I would think it should be able to handle it

what could be wrong or what can i do?

Pentium D's do run a little warm, so that is part of the problem. However, they shouldn't be that loud at start up. Check the fan, see if there is dust in it, that might get it off track and cause it to make more noise than it should.

well if the temps are good (check from the bios) you could always try reducing the fan speed. You should be able to do it from the bios or then with some software. (maybe speedfan?)

Also cleaning the computer always helps, and if nothing else works go and buy a decent hsf for the cpu, the stock ones are never that good.
