I want to build multipurpouse computer that i can use for gaming, storing music and mabe some videos. I have been researching which components to get and the following list is what I have come up with. It will cost about $1000 total. If any one could give my any suggestions or tell me anything i might be missing it would help me alot.

also is the memory i have chosen good, there are so many choices and i'm not really sure which one to pick. I used newegg.com's search to make sure its compatable with my motherboard.
and
what operating system should i get: windows xp or vista, and which package: Home, Business, System Builder?

couple things. if you want to game then dont get the 8600GT. DX10 games are way too powerful for it to handle. i would either get an 8600GTS or a more powerful 7 series card like the 7950GT. also get a SATA HDD there faster and cost the same

well i am one of those Vista haters (I own vista but i couldnt install it)
Go for Windows XP Professional 64-bit version Its 64-bit so its fast and its also stable and most if not all programs and games out there are compatible with it

First off, welcome to CF, now lets see if we can be of some help to you.

Well the major points were hit by Rudster816 and NEED WOW NOW, though I'm usually really picky with power supplies, since it's an Antec case, I'll trust that the PSU isn't complete and utter garbage. You really should consider bumping up to a 8600GTS or something if your budget allows you to. As for OS, Vista still has many compatibility issues with various programs, but you know, chances are if you go XP now, somewhere down the road you're gonna have to bump up to Vista, so it's just up to you whether the time between now and when the Service Pack 1 is released is worth 100 dollars to you for a XP Professional OEM. Also, you might want to consider an SATA DVD+/-Drive instead of an IDE. Otherwise, I really like your selection and you should be able to have lots of fun with it. Your RAM is good, Crucial is very reputable for it's memory.

It'd be fine if you bought this rig without changing anything, you have all the components to make a computer work, and I understand that if you bump up to an 8600GTS it may exceed your budget, but you should definitely try to get it, it's just so much more worth it.

NEED WOW NOW, you have no idea what you're talking about. Have you ever actually used Vista or XPx64?? The only issues are with software compatibility, just because they don't support 64 bit yet. Vista 32 bit is fine. XP x64 will have the same issues...

id bump the power supply up to a 620 watt
also vista 64 bit is an awsome os
it really dont have as many problems as people think
i have it and i really dont have driver problems
also if u can get an 8800 gts 320mb card or higher
ull be glad u did when games like bioshock and crysis come out
but other wise listen to freestyler105
