Desktop Icons moving by themselves

I have a Dell laptop running Windows XP Pro. Whenever I close the lid or put the laptop into suspend mode, the icons get moved to the top left corner of the screen. It will place the icons into columns of 6 and then start a new one. It is getting really annoying so if anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have multiple monitors enabled, i.e another monitor currently attached?

right click with cursor in desktop area there under auto arrange icons by and it gives you a couple of choices if you have the auto-arrange set it will arrange them ,so you need to uncheck it,or check the option that you want

It is not set to auto arranged.

If I go to the settings for the display, It reads "1. Multiple Monitors) on NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300"

There is the option below that that reads "2. Default Monitor on NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300"

It appears that there is the option to have a second monitor, but I think it is supposed to be set on option 1 because the resolution for it is correct (1680x 1050). With option 2 I can only get a resolution of 640x480. It is also not enabled. Any ideas?
