CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A 1-year-old dog apparently turned on its owner, killing her with bites to her throat and arm, authorities said.

Phyllis G. Carroll, 63, was mauled by one of her two black chow mix dogs around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, said Fayette County Coroner Joe Todd. Both dogs will be destroyed at the request of the victim's family, he said.

Carroll kept the dogs, a male and female from the same litter, in a yard behind her home in Connersville, about 45 miles east of Indianapolis. There were no witnesses, but Todd said authorities believed the male dog, which was the larger of the two, attacked Carroll.

The dog bit Carroll in the arm as she carried treats out from the house, then bit her throat after she fell to the ground. Eight sets of bite marks were found on Carroll and she bled to death from her wounds, Todd said.

Friends said Carroll had become increasingly afraid of the aggressive dogs, Todd said.

This prooves just one thing to me , any dog no matter what breed has it in it to be agressive and potentialy kill .
i own a german shepard , a dog that has previously had bad press because one of this breed has attacked someone i also see simillar breeds such as rotweilers dobermans and and bull dog breeds get bad press because some stupid owner has decided not to train right and wrong into their animal or a stupid breeder has sold the animal to a chav so he can protect himself whilst collecting his dole .yet the other day i saww a poodle slightly smaller than mine and the owner had done it uo in pink yuk and it was snarling at people yet there aint no bad press for that breed no way which is unfair . i think any dog has the postential to attack , hell i have been nipped by a yorkie terrier before it just goes to show a dog is how you train it to be unless it has suffered serious trauma in its earlier life or in the case of mine who goes wild at the sight of other dogs hasnt been socialised propeerly at a younger age and now she cant be easily snapped out of it which is a shame cause it is her only fault

Now I'm kinda glad I own a rabbit. He's such a wimp. He runs away when I come near and he hides in his cage when strangers come by.

It is the Marjory of the time the owner that causes dog to become vicious but any good dog can turn, If its unwell or carrying an injury of some description, and so is in discomfort. it will often lead to aggressive behavior.
I knew a dog trainer who trained police Alsatians for 20 years, then one day while playing with his own dogs in the garden one turned on him in a ferocious attack, luckily for him he was built like the jolly green giant and so overcame the dog and immediately put it to sleep. this dog was about 10 and had never so much as sneezed before let alone bite anybody, and to this day we still do not know what caused it. so there you go even the most trained dogs can turn so you should be very wary of any dog and never leave them with children unattended.

yeah i have heard rare ocurances of that happening but on the whole an owner makes the dog

and even if my dog didnt have the problem with opther dogs i would never let it off its lead in an unenclosed public area as you nebver know what sound or action of another person will spook the dog , i have a large cage about 20ft high where i take my dog for runs
also never leave any dog unnatended with children hat is fundamental as a child may see grabbing a dogs ear etc as a play gesture but the dog may see this as attack and the only way to defend the dog has are its teeth
it aint just big so called vicious dogs that can overpower a child , hell a jack Russel could prolly seriously injure a baby
any breed of dog is dangerous if not trained well
another thing a dog that is scared or distressed can bite
i also feel as soon has a dog has attacked with no justifacation it should be put down , but if you are being beaten up in the street and your dog attacks that is acceptable as it is protecting its owners
