The term is "geordie", I had a pal from Newcastle in the RAF, his accent was great, when I first met him, I could hardly understand what he was saying we did patrols together at night [RAF Police], & we chatted as it was sooo boring, & I learnt quite a few phrases, "what fettle?" is how are you, "bairns" are chidren, "bullits" are boiled sweets, some older words aren't used any more, like "clarts" [mud] & "snotter clot" [handkerchief]
Facts; the geordie accent was virtually banned from TV until the 60's or 70's, & Sting, a geordie by birth had to learn to speak middle English as he entered his singing career, a shame as I think that local accents are very important!
