When Im running windows XP, with aim open I have about 600mb of free RAM, is this normal for XP? If it isnt what can I do to lower my memory usage.

Background programs such as antivirus, messanger softwares...
600mb for XP is okay. Basic is about 210mb. If you have like norton, it's 150mb so now you are already 360mb. MSN messanger does 60mb. If you had a virtual drive (deamon tool ect..) it's another 30mb...

Just look at what you have running under processes if you want to lower your RAM usage. Click on "Mem Usage" and it'll show you the order of which processes are using the most.

messenger is about 15MB.
aim should be about 25.

Well, if you have Firefox open, you can add at least another 150MB to that depending on how many tabs you have open.

if you're using both aim and MSN, just download trillian since it uses both programs and uses far less memory.
