Every time I try to format this gateway laptop, it says "Setup cannot cannot copy drivers.cab"

It must not be very important because I was a ble to finish setup run. Is it an important file? If I were to add it manually, where is it on the CD and in which folder should I put it?

Its probably your CD thats the problem then, have you cleaned it etc. The drivers.cab file is all the drivers for the OS

It contains all the plug and play drivers. There are also other driver files on the CD such as SP1.cab SP2.cab (if your CD is newer then these will be on there)these are part of your service packs and contain extra drivers that arent included in the original drivers.cab file. So if they are ok on your CD then the OS has probably got the required drivers from there.

So it won't be a problem in the future if I don't add drivers.cab to the os?
