Cheers mate, I honestly don't know what was stopping it from working, ah, PC was due for a reformat anyway.

As for the RAID I'll get One external HD (get a external enclosure for my current internal 5400rpm HD), and then I'll buy a 5400 or 7200rpm of the same model from somewhere and chuck it in there. I didn't get the 7200 model at first cause' I was worried about temps, but from what I've read, it doesn't seem to be a real issure. And the performance increase is supposed to be good.

Im not sure if you can set RAID with an external drive, i doubt it.

Ah well, there goes that idea then lol... Might have a look on google.

It might be possible, but if you were running a striped array, it would mean that your external drive would need to be connected to the laptop all the time.
