Hello there,

I just got Windows Vista and I want to try to upgrade to 2 GB. However, I have some questions:

1.) Is it bad to mix laptop memory brands and types? Kingston vs Ultra, DDR vs DDR2

2.) I have a Acer laptop 1.6 ghz with 512 RAM right now. What kind of RAM would you recommend? Which ones should I stay away from? Which brands?

Also:

3.) One of the requirements to use Windows Aero is that you need WDDM driver (Windows Display Driver Model) Where do you get this? Also, I have an integrated graphics with I believe 128 MB - would I be able to use Aero? Or do I need an video card.

-Thanks

1) you cant mix types , for instance ddr will only go ina a slot for ddr and ddr 2 only goes in a slot for ddr2
2)you can only use the memory type that is already there
3)someone else may be able to answer this as i have no clue

Not sure about the graphics card. Kingston and Corsair are the best. Just to say my friend has a video card like that and it runs aero good.

He has an integrated video card or a video card with WDDM?

Also, how would I be able to find out the type/brand of my RAM, and the number of pins? Do I have to manually check it, or is there a way to do it through the computer.

google cpu-z
download it, and it will tell you just about every spec of your computer.
