i have a new intel pentium 4 3600 ghz on a new intel D925XBC with a new winfast PX7800GT and a SATA WD 80GB HDD and a new kingston 1g 667mhz DDR2 CL5.

at first i thought it was overheating so i bought a AS5 paste
but that did'nt help
i then re-installed (twice!) Windows XP on a formatted drive!
but that did'nt help either
i also ran memtest and a scan for the HDD from WD but they didnt find anything
i ran scandisk, spyware etc. scans
but that dont help!

now i keep running defrag, but it dont seem to help either...
it's still so very slow!

my USB mouse is not recognized, but has the red light on...
i tried other USB devices (Ipod,mp3) and i'm affraid they're gone too!!!
cuz i tried them on different comp, but there, it says not recognized...
and i'm affraid to test other devices...!
could this be connected?

check all your connections , the usb problems are they fron usb's if so it could be miswired

another thing to try are the temps still high , how did you apply as5

even in the back they dont work

i've used a drop a paste in the center of the CPU then the HSF

i sure hope so...
i installed what came with the disk

as for the temps:

49
39
43
i think it's normal, no?

what xp did you use? was it the one that came with the comp and did you build it your self or is it a dell or something?

if you found some xp disc on the street for $20 it might be corrupted or have a virus or something. go to system properties (press windowskey and pause/break at the same time) and post what it says there at the bottom (should say intel pentium 4..)

it's the same i had before the upgrade, and no it's not 20$...
as for the properties it says:
intel(R)
pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40 GHz
3.40 GHZ, 1.00 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

do you want me to hijackthis?
cuz like i said it's a new OS...

Your problem may come from a BIOS setting. If you have a P4 3.6GHZ, nd you have it at 3.4GHZ, you definatelly have a problem with the BIOS settings. As for your USB, I'd check for your drivers.

BTW, by slow, you mean how much slow is it?
