New Build Watercooling ?'s

hi,

right i got a friend who wants me to build him 2 pc's one for now which i am fine with no problems but then he wants another 1 bit later in the year with watercooling ??? problems start

yh the 1st build is just gonna b like a pentium D with 2 Gb RAM and simple video card.

Not good at picking grpahics cards but its going to be used for running multiple second life's and dual screening onto his plasma

now that total price is £634.36 i have a budget for him of £750 so my main question is can i get any form of watercooling for around 100 quid ???

i have never dealt with water cooling b 4 so n e thing i shud know ???

and also feel free to change parts of the build i only just flicked through to find that stuff

dont buy a kit
and unless your overclock there is no point to water cooling
it can damage your system if not installed right
id say got for a zalman 7900 if u want to overclock on air

The motherboard is microATX, but you have a standard ATX case there. Get a regular ATX motherboard. I've never heard of ASRock before...for a high end build like this you'll want a really nice motherboard.

If you're gonna buy a nice processor like that, at least get some DDR2-800 or DDR2-1066, not 667.

I've never heard of Extra Value power supplies, you might want a name brand like Antec.

You don't really need an aftermarket heatsink/fan if you're not going to overclock.


Overall, I think it's overkill. He wants all this just to play Second Life?? And you're planning on getting one of the best processors one the market, but getting relatively cheap other parts??

ok lets check some things off the list

1. MOST ATX cases support MATX motherboards

2. Asrock are not huge in the uk but are a known company.

3. Maybe A fair point about the RAM but i dnt think i will need faster

4. Extra Value is ebuyers own brand im only buyin 1 of them so its got more power other than the 450 that comes with the case i dnt need n e thing super cooling or n e thing.

5. The fan & heatsink is only coz i cnt stan d noisy computers i heard that will run alot quiter than the standard

6. Yeah he wants to play second life but he runs more than 1 at a time im talking 20 accounts on 1 computer which is fairly hungry on resources the reason i got a decent cpu was coz i needed a good 1 the rest as hes not doin n e super gaming doesnt have to b top of the range

Why would you want to put a micro ATX motherboard in it though, it'll just make it harder to build, and generally mATX motherboards aren't as good.

If you want all those parts, I'd downgrade to a Core 2 Duo E6400. Those parts are going to bottleneck the E6700, and it would waste it's power. It's like putting a 500 horsepower engine in a crappy Ford Taurus.

yeah they might not perform as good as ATX boards but there is still no reason y u cnt put a MATX board in an ATX case no reason at all

and as for the processor reccomend thats a good suggestion very good infact i was thinkin on downgradin a bit but cudnt decide to do it or not

how bout the graphics card im absolutely crap at choosing them i have no knoledge in that section at all as far as im concerned if its PCIe X16 and has 256Mb or more memory then ill take it lol

But with a microATX board, it will be harder to build. There won't be as much room.

The X1600 isn't bad, especially if you don't want to spend too much. It's not gonna be used for like intense gaming, so I think it's okay.

well i wudnt say harder to build my 1st ever build was on a MATX build and i found it easy.

the only thing that was a bit tricky was gettin the cd drive in the slot passed the PSU but thats was not really a big problem
