HDD not being detected by MOBO

Hmm . . . Does the video card have a power plug that was disconnected? That could cause the video to go blank at Windows start up.
 
If you connected the power to the drive while the computer was on you may have damaged the drive's controller board. Rma the drive.
 
Not necessarily. Most, if not all SATA drives are hot swappable. Which means you connect and disconnect them while the system is running.
