I am starting to build a new computer for gaming and i have a question. What is a good processor for a gaming computer. I dont need anything really expensive just a good one.

but as i said if u want to be reasonible on price intel core 2 duo e6600
or intel core 2 duo e6400 with a desent after market fan and over clock

those are good cept quad-cores are for megatasking, not for gaming. just stick with an e6600 or for AMD a 5200+ and everything should work out great.

You're joking, right?? The E6600 is far from a budget processor. Actually, it's one of he best processors out there right now.

I don't know where you get your money from, but can I have some??

Yeah, good call freestyler, since when did the E6600 become a budget cpu? If you're really on a tight budget like 400-500 dollars, a skt 939 system will work out fine for you or a low class AM2 processor. If you have around 600-800 you can consider an E6400 or lower. For 1k+ you can settle for the E6400 or E6600, the kentsfields are just rediculous unless you plan on keeping photoshop/indesign/bf2/cs:s/+ a bunch of other apps open 24/7, otherwise for normal users you really won't see a difference in performance.

All you said was E6600 in your first post, you never said the E6400, which can be stretched out as a budget CPU, as for the ultimate gaming PC, quad-core wouldn't necessarily warrant the title of 'ultimate', maybe 'most expensive', but quad cores really show no advantage over the core 2 duos except for increased multitasking capabilities. I'm fairly confident than the Core 2 Extreme Edition would benchmark better than the quad cores on single gaming applications. Sure, if you plan on playing 3 games at once, maybe the quad core would prove advantageous, otherwise, no.
