There's a guy at my local autocross that tears it up in a stock RX-8 with Falken Azenis RT-615 tires (grippiest street tire you can get, ever). He's way up among the fastest cars, usually up around or above the S2000's and WRX STi's on race tires. The Wankel is amazing.

The Wankel is amazing.

It's not the Wankel rotary anymore, it's the new generation Renesis rotary.

The Wankel rotary was in the RX-7, it was pure junk.

The Renesis is much better.

Well I was just using Wankel as a general term for rotary style engine, but I didn't know they had a new style in the 8. I thought it was just updated a little.

I heard the rx-8 engine sucks, and that it DYNOS in at a measily 140hp..So yeah.

Actually I think it's like 240 hp with like 160 lb/ft torque.....thats one disadvantage of the rotary, low on torque. That just means that you have to rev it to redline..

Edit: Just found it is 232 hp, 159 lb/ft torque....I was close.
