anti-static strap?

well ima bout to buy a 8800 graphics card but people say if i dont have a anti-static strap it can damage it, what does it do?

It keeps you grounded. I have never used one, and have yet to short anything out. If you are still worried, grab onto a grounded object as you work with your foot. (such as a pipe or a radiator)

It keeps you grounded, so you don't zap your 8800. There not needed, just stand on a non carpeted floor, and touch some metal before you start. Im not to careful when fooling with my comp, and ive never shorted anything. Don't worry about it.
