Building a Computer

Hey guys,
I just turned eighteen and got quite a bit of money and I'm going to make a computer (or rather my sisters boyfriend is going to make it for me). Now I am going to apologise now, for my lack of computer knowledge - hopefully I'll even learn something out of this.:)

The Computer will generally be for gaming, so I'm mainly just trying to make sure it will run new games effectively. I am on a laptop at the moment so it means I'm going to have to start from scratch making this computer i.e. I wont be able to take the old monitor and hardrive etc.

I want to spend £800 max (is that enough?). If any of you could help me make a computer spec it would be really helpful as obviously you know alot more about computers than I do. I'm not expecting a game monster with the money that I have but if I could make one that will play games like World of Warcraft and Counter Strike Source and is possible to upgrade later if needed.

Parts I need:

Motherboard:
Processor:
Video Card:
RAM:
Power Supply:
Monitor:
Case:
Keyboard:
Speakers or Headphones:
Windows:
Fan:

There may be other parts I have forgotten, correct me if I have missed something out. I can easily get a cheap Keyboard and Headphones. I think I need 1-2 gig of RAM. I'll need a good video card and the rest I dont know alot about.
Thank you

for the cpu defanitaley go Core 2 Duo from intel if you say you have quite a bit of money i would build one but i dont know any UK computer sites

I'm not sure about the conversion rate for USD or of UK hardware vendors so I'll just tell you what you should look for.
CPU: Core 2 Duo 6400e
Motherboard: Any Core2 compatible mobo, ASUS and Gigabyte are good companies to look into, I have personal preference for ASUS and their P5W boards
Power Supply: Corsair makes very high quality power supplies, as does OCZ/Enermax/FSP(Fortron Group
Monitor: Preference on your part mostly
Case: Also your own personal preference
Peripherals (Speakers/Keyboard/Mice): Logitech has very good products
Videocard: You can either get a cheapish card right now like a 7300GT and wait for a ATIs r6xx series release or go for a higher end card like a 7950GT or 8800GTS if you want
Windows: I assume you mean OS when you say this.. or I could be mistaken, but I'd get Vista right now, no point in buying XP and having to upgrade to Vista next year, might as well get it now. As for what version of Vista to get, I think Home Premium would be enough.
RAM: Get 2gb RAM their usually 125$ USD from any reputable brand, Corsair XMS, Crucial, Mushkin, OCZ

hope this helps, sry I couldn't give links

change that ram to this: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(15884)Corsair-2024MB-TwinX-XMS2-6400-DDR2-Memory.aspx
epically if it is for gaming, this faster ram (which the mobo will take) will perform better and is well worth the extra 12 pounds (sorry, have an American keyboard, no pound sign).

and yeah the 800 pounds will get you a pretty good computer (that is about $1500, for us Americans). I would plan on 100 pounds for the monitor, and buy it from a local tech store, becuase if it has "dead pixels" it is easier and faster to get it replaced.

ok yeah i agree change the ram ,i think it is on offer at the moment but i dunno that ram is much better but i think it is on offer at the moment

i would say a bit more like £120 for a monitor as you will get something like this http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(16158)19-Asus-VW192S-5ms-Widescreen-LCD-monitor.aspx

and yeah go to a local place for a monitor , that place i post links from is my local computer store as i live near their showroom and their warehouse is a 20 min drive away so i can pick my stuff up
